Onyx Renewable Partners L.P. (“Onyx”) is seeking a Director of Origination for Business Development to join our growing and dynamic team. The Director will be responsible for leading project development, contract negotiations, research and reporting on new technologies and markets, financial modeling, and investment memo creation. Daily notable responsibilities include maintaining communication channel with teammates, clients, external consultants, contractors, and subcontractors.
Additionally, this individual will be responsible for Analysts and Associates on workflow and workload. Leading calls and presentations with external clients and serve as main point of contact for projects and portfolios. Lead negotiations of all legal agreements and documents (e.g., LOIs, Amendments, PPAs, Leases, Licenses, etc.). Lead diligence efforts and help train Analysts and Associates on process and risk tolerance. Attend numerous conferences and events to generate new leads and business. Refine and check pricing models and slide decks from Analysts and Associates. Help with interviewing candidates.
Responsibilities
- Lead efforts on performing project level due diligence of development deliverables.
- Generate leads and maintain existing strategic development partnerships and portfolios.
- Strategize with department heads and executive management team on pipeline evaluation and development approaches for new markets.
- Draft RFP and RFQ responses.
- Review project financial models and articulate project risks and values to management team.
- Coordinate and collaborate with Engineering, Construction, and Finance teams to estimate model inputs and project assumptions.
- Structure and negotiate various PPAs, EPCs, Site Control agreements, and Asset Purchase agreements alongside Onyx legal counsel.
- Oversee varied bid/pitch documents for project opportunities and manage external communications.
- Attend bid meetings, site walks, conferences etc.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree and/or 4-6 years of direct solar development experience required.
- Deep understanding of critical development activities, approvals, deliverables.
- Experience in negotiations of project agreements with developers, landowners, or financiers.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to evaluate priorities and multi-task accordingly while keeping others apprised of status with respect to deadlines.
- Ability to identify problems and discrepancies, independently perform research and analysis of causes, and recommend corrective actions.
- Must be detail and results-oriented with an ability to work in a cross-functional, fast paced, and constantly evolving environment as well as extended hours, as required.
- Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Work Conditions
- Ability to walk construction job sites and climb ladders if necessary.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse and other devices and objects.
- Overtime may be required to meet project deadlines.
