Saratoga Springs Spa Solar Park Energized

September 13, 2017

Onyx Renewable Partners L.P., “Onyx”, along with The City of Saratoga Springs, Sustainable Saratoga, and The New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (“NYSERDA”) announces the completion of construction on a 2.597 MWDC ground-mount solar PV system under a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement in Saratoga Springs, New York. The solar PV system was built at the Weibel Avenue Landfill and is expected to generate roughly 3,176.62 MWh of energy per year, supplying Saratoga Springs with 40% of their electrical energy load through a renewable resource.

The energy provided is expected to offset about 2,317 metric tons of CO2 emissions – or the carbon sequestered by 25,378 acres of US forest in one year – also equivalent to by 2,822 homes’ energy use for one year or removing the CO2 emissions of 72,004 barrels of oil.

Onyx, The City of Saratoga Spring, Sustainable Saratoga, and NYSERDA will be hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, September 26th, 2017 at the Weibel Avenue Landfill at 11:00 A.M., all are welcome to attend.

“Onyx would like to thank The City of Saratoga, Sustainable Saratoga, and NYSERDA for all their hard work; without them, this project would not be possible,” says Onyx’s CEO, Matt Rosenblum.

“The City and its residents are excited not only to see land previously used as a landfill turned into an amazing solar facility, but also for the economic and environmental benefits the Spa Solar Park will generate for Saratoga Springs” said Finance Commissioner, Michele Madigan, project leader for the City of Saratoga Springs.
